Esmeralda Montgomery is a British-American painter from London based in Chicago, IL. She creates oil paintings that use fragmented urban imagery in congruence with delicate etching techniques to enquire into the watchful nature of cities. Inspired by readings of post-Kantian philosophy, she addresses experiences of seeing and being seen and the relationships between person and object in space. Montgomery holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She is the recipient of an SAIC Merit Scholarship and a Faculty Nominated Scholarship for the Ox-Bow School of Art. She participated in the New Work ’23 group show at SAIC, the Small Works Winter Showcase at the Chicago Fine Art Salon, and was featured in the 2024 SAIC Spring Undergraduate Exhibition
